SUMMER TRAVEL WRITING PROJECT
A TWO-WEEK RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM FOR MINORITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Arkansas Soul Travel Writing Project serves two purposes: To train young, aspiring media makers and to reach diverse audiences interested in traveling to Arkansas to experience the natural state. The program is structured to introduce high school students to core journalism and PR skills including digital content and promotion, photography, video production, interviewing and story development for diverse audiences.
The project also presents scholarships and paid internship opportunities for
star participants of the program.
Participants for this project are recruited primarily from the East Arkansas/Delta region. The program is a prime opportunity to present real-world challenges to motivated students in their home state, generate diverse content and assets, and provide service through a partnership with Arkansas Tourism and the University of Arkansas.
THE 2019 JOURNEY: #ARSOUL19
WE SHARED. WE LEARNED. WE EXPLORED.
After four days of media training on the UA campus, our journey started in artsy and cultural districts in Northwest Arkansas and ventured over to Central Arkansas for metropolitan sights in Little Rock with our sights for southern El Dorado.
All of the photos, videos and articles created during the Arkansas Soul program were published on this very website to share what we discovered in select regions in Arkansas. This is where our digital media lessons and guidance came in handy.
